Mission Statement
In order to encourage the study of Iron Range history, the Iron Range Research Center identifies, collects, processes, catalogs, preserves, displays, and makes easily accessible the historically significant written, oral, and visual records of Minnesota's Iron Ranges.

Audiovisual Collection
Audio and visual materials, including but not limited to: audio cassettes, film, video, and digital/electronic media.

Government Documents Collection
The records of local and other governmental agencies primarily from the Iron Range and the records of Iron Range Resources (IRR).

Manuscript Collection
Documents including but not limited to: personal and family papers, organizational records, and corporate records.

Map Collection
Two dimensional representations primarily of the Iron Range and the iron mining industry, including but not limited to: geographic contour maps, geological cross sections, railroad maps, underground mine activity, blueprints, aerial photographs, and architectural drawings.

Object Collection
Three dimensional artifacts, including but not limited to: small objects held by the museum, historic buildings, motor vehicles, mining equipment, home furnishings, and other material culture.

Photographic Collection
Two dimensional photographic media, including but not limited to: original prints, negatives, slides, transparencies, and digital/electronic media.

The Iron Range Research Center is open to the public year round.
