The IRRC's photographic collections date from the pioneer mining era in the 1890s into the 21st century. The online resources include finding aids describing dozens of collections, along with hundreds more individually digitized images.
Most of these collections are of a personal nature and document persons, activities, places, and events. Some document specific topics—World War Two military service or Civilian Conservation Corps assignments during the 1930s. Some document a particular industry or company—predominantly iron ore and taconite mining.
